When planning your climb up Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the most common questions we get is, “Who will pick me up at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)?” It’s a great question—and one we’re happy to answer.
Stress-Free Arrival
After a long flight, the last thing you want to worry about is how you’re getting to your hotel. That’s why at Kilimanjaro Sunrise, we make your arrival as easy and stress-free as possible.
You can include airport transfers in your climb package. Whether you’re traveling solo or with a group, you’ll be greeted by one of our friendly, professional drivers as soon as you exit the airport.
How It Works
Before your trip, we’ll request your flight details. This allows our team to monitor your arrival time, even if your flight is delayed. Once you land:
- You’ll go through immigration and customs
- Collect your luggage
- Exit the airport.
Just outside the arrival hall, you’ll see one of our staff members holding a sign that reads “Kilimanjaro Sunrise.”
Our driver will help you with your bags and take you directly to your hotel in Arusha.
You don’t need to call or hunt down a taxi. We’ve got it all covered.
However, if you choose not to include airport transfers with your climb package, that’s perfectly fine. Taxis are readily available just outside the baggage claim area at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Make sure to agree on a fare before getting in, as most taxis don’t use meters.
What If My Flight Is Delayed?
No problem! We track your flight in real-time. If it’s delayed, our driver will wait until you arrive. You won’t be stranded—we’re with you from the moment you land. We also provide you with a 24-hour emergency phone number that you can text if there are problems. We recommend downloading WhatsApp to text us.
Keep in mind that the person you have been working with up to this point is 10 hours behind Tanzania; if there is an issue while en route, text the WhatsApp number first.

The person who picks is usually your guide, assistant guide, or one of our logistics team members. Either way, they’re part of the Kilimanjaro Sunrise family and will ensure you feel welcomed and cared for from the start.
Airport Drop-Off After Your Climb
Your adventure doesn’t end at the summit. Once your climb (or safari) is complete, we’ll also arrange for your return transfer to JRO so you can catch your flight home on time and without hassle.
